Tara Brady Irish Times This colourful animation tries a little too hard to get down with the kids. Rated: 2/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Aside from a fleeting post-Minions Kubrick gag, there's little here for the oldies and nothing that the Pixar generation won't have seen done before and better. Rated: 2/5 Jan 31, 2016 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) It's a feeble storyline and the film is only partially lifted by some lively action sequences and one or two Gravity-like scenes of the astronauts drifting in space. Rated: 2/5 Jan 28, 2016 Full Review Barbara Shulgasser Common Sense Media Animated adventure about stowaways on a rocket has peril. Rated: 3/5 Mar 6, 2019 Full Review Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) More than a few parts of the film are a let down. Rated: 2/5 Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Neil Smith Total Film Kids unentranced by such touchy-feely moonshine at least have a playful gekko to tickle them. Adults, though, will be longing for a sea of tranquillity. Rated: 2/5 Jan 2, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Ralph D This is a Spanish animated film with an originally English-speaking cast (mostly unknown, except for Lorraine Pilkington), which was only then dubbed to Spanish (see Wikipedia, this is not mentioned on RT). The reviews are divided, the American ones in particular are mostly negative. We (in a family viewing) thought this was a nice (kids) film. If you have to make a negative remark, it is extremely patriotic from an American point of view, as the protagonists (children) set out to protect the evidence that a United States Apollo mission first set foot on the Moon in 1969 (and planted a US flag there, hence the title) from a Musk-like super villain who wants to rewrite history. Maybe American viewers and critics feel that this is a homegrown patent to be protected? Is this film a masterpiece? No. Is it in any way groundbreaking, through innovative animation techniques or an original plot that serves both young and adult audiences? No. It is simply an unpretentious sf-fantasy family film with comical twists. The criticisms, that it has all been done better by, for example, Pixar, make no sense – if that is the standard, then no one should be allowed to make an animated film again unless they improve upon the standard. This film is in any case much better than misfires like, let’s say, Cars 2. The four stars are, admittedly, a bit much - but they will balance some of the unfair reviews and, in fact, I do definitely recommend it.
