When Great Britain discovers that its small colony Gaillardia is the subject of much interest from the U.S. and Soviet Union, dullard diplomat Carlton-Browne (Terry-Thomas) is dispatched to the Pacific island to find out why it's suddenly on the international radar. There, he finds a conflict between the northern and southern residents, a corrupt prime minister (Peter Sellers), a lovely princess (Luciana Paluzzi) and many ways for to muck up an already combustible situation.
