Taron Egerton and an against-type Jason Bateman make for great adversaries in Carry-On, a throwback thriller that clears all checkpoints of plot logic with its confident execution.

"Carry-On" is an action movie that is definitely a Christmas movie, no ifs, ands or buts about it. Go to Full Review

... A filling chunk of crude entertainment – as carb-rich and greens-free as the baked potato you’ll probably eat with it. Go to Full Review

A fairly entertaining and intriguing film that keeps you glued to the screen and, yes, let’s call it what it is: a popcorn flick, even if it never made it to theaters. At times formulaic and with some implausible moments, though. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Carry-On proves itself to be more than a mid-level thriller with exceptional performances from its two leads and consistent work from Jaume Collet-Serra and his team of talented craftspeople. Go to Full Review

Despite its at-times overwhelming screenplay resulting in a prolonged runtime, Collet-Serra and Fixman’s crime thriller is packed with enough action and mystery to satisfy audiences for the festive season. Go to Full Review

Mate P @matepolcz 2d Carry-On is mixed, but mostly on the good side. The characters are basic, but they work. The dialogues would be decent if not for the overexplaining, fast exposition and the humour didn't work for me. The story is good. I could say it's predictable, but looking back at how I felt after a few deaths: I wasn't sure who would make it out alive. The ending is great. Also, I noticed some similarities with the Mission: Impossible franchise (Ethan being the protagonist's name, having a cop/CIA agent as an ally that doesn't know what side the hero's on). The directing is decent, the cinematography is okay. The camera movement is great and immersive, but the lighting isn't. The editing is weird, but most of that is probably because of the blocking.. I love Lorne Balfe, but this score is forgettable except for a few scenes. The cast is pretty good, but not all performances are good. Carry-On is said to be an above average Netflix film, but it's only an average movie in my opinion. See more Logan G @SequelsArentAlwaysBad12 4d Carry-On is a very entertaining action thriller with a great cast, especially a standout villain performance from Jason Bateman, very thrilling action, and a good premise. See more Ben H @Jaminjorma Jan 8 Jason Bateman does great as a serious character, and the general plot does elicit some deep thoughts of what the morally right thing to do is in several situations. Most of the drama is fueled by the wildly annoying tropes of miscommunication and "Why would literally anybody react that way/do that" though. There is one fight scene in the middle that feels like it was pulled out of a Deadpool movie for seemingly no reason that is wildly confusing. Maybe it was an homage to the Kingsman movies for Egerton? The ending was a bit too predictable and several major plot holes were left open. Great for a background-noise movie though, and not a bad watch if you don't take any of the plot too seriously. See more Brendan M @Carrickree Dec 31 This was an exciting enough movie but spoiled by the unbelievability factor. Characters walking into a busy airport carrying a firearm and noone passes any remarks! Killers accomplice receives an order to kill the main characters girlfriend at an unknown location within LAX airport and within 3 minutes is able to park his van in a convenient location to allow him to point a laser sight on her forehead. See more Bill B @billb2025 Dec 27 Dumb plot that is completely unbelievable. At every important moment, you have to ask yourself, why would he do that??? He wouldn't, and that says it all. See more Matthew Z @MattZ454 Dec 24 Has a fun idea but the plot falls with the antagonists switching from calculating mercenaries to angry thugs chasing after our protagonist’s girlfriend after her utility as a hostage has been lost. It only got worse at that midpoint. Could they not afford a sanity check in the plot from someone not involved in the production? See more Read all reviews
