Critics Consensus

Taron Egerton and an against-type Jason Bateman make for great adversaries in Carry-On, a throwback thriller that clears all checkpoints of plot logic with its confident execution.

Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) A real guilty pleasure. Jan 17, 2025 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News "Carry-On" is an action movie that is definitely a Christmas movie, no ifs, ands or buts about it. Rachael Z Overall, a good movie. It was your typical movie, with an obvious ending but a good watch. The one thing I really disliked was the car scene with the detective heading to the airport. It was the only scene that was made to look so action packed, and they really tried to make it look cool, like it was a Fast and Furious scene. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Amit A A really bad movie with glaring plot holes that only a 7 year would miss. The absurdly high rating given by professional critics shows the wide gap between reality and the preceptions of over- paid pretentious movie experts. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Joe J Terrible acting. Terrible writing. Terrible editing. The edited over voice is so bad I had to stop watching. What's the matter, didn't have microphones in the budget? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Japh P My first review ever but this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Looks like a 10 year old wrotethis script. Who lets a TSA agent just run all over the airport. Also just one hole among many. The sniper just conveniently found a spot to point at his girl friend across a huge airport. And he stands right there and not tell her to drop down. And if she gets shot the whole airport gets shut down... And if he knows he is being watched he keeps his phone and watch where the camera can see it. And gets the gun and doesn't shoot the guy attacking him even if it's in the leg. Let's his boss get killed instead of shooting the other guy and on and on and on. And of course so much easier to get a piece of luggage on the plane using fake IDs for guys this sophisticated like a cleaning crew instead of going through blackmailing a TSA agent.... Talk about a movie with zero logic and common sense... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Julian P Wow, one of those movies where the popcorn munchers don't get it but the critics do! Edgerton is excellent, the plot would ordinarily be unbelievable but the movie pulls it off with aplomb. Tension abounds all the way through and the ending is superb. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Cam C Good fun and suspenseful. If you don't go looking for plot holes, you won't find them.
