DanTheMan 2 Carry On Regardless, aside from being a phrase I tell myself every morning, feels more like a series of episodic anthology tales than the more cohesive narratives of the previous two films. However, that's hardly a bad thing since the film zips along very nicely, jumping between its sketches with a boundless energy and pushing the series into far more silly and surreal territory. The various tangential yarns are uneven, some hilarious, others just okay, but there's a great deal of affection to be felt for its sense of fun. It's tough not to fall for the innocent, broad charm on offer as once the newspaper that fills the opening shot drops and you see Sid James behind it, you know you're in relatively safe hands. There's a lot going on within the confines of the film; how well the sketches work often enough depends on the performer, but much of it warrants at least a wry chuckle as nothing falls flat, aside from maybe Stanley Unwin turning up irregularly to talk Unwinese. Ultimately, Carry On Regardless all passes by harmlessly enough, though there's an impression that the team felt their formula was already beginning to go stale, hence the sketch format, but the gags and double-entendre camp are always guaranteed to gain a laugh. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Simon T The only reason to watch most Carry Ons is for the expertise of a group of talented light comedians wrestling with a duff script. This is one of the early ones. A negligible story has Sid James running an employment agency and sending his recruits to various completely implausible jobs - Kenneth Williams taking a chimp for a walk, Joan Sims helping out at a wine-tasting, Charles Hawtrey assisting at a boxing match. Nothing much happens and the only smiles come from a couple of appearances by the great Stanley Unwin. A very simple premise, the carry on gang joins a temp agency, and they all get sent out on wacky odd jobs, hilarity ensues! A very fun sit through.
