kevin c Set somewhere in Latin America, six very different women staying in the country at the same hotel as they wait on that country's government to approve them to adopt local children to bring back home to America. Interestingly told story that sees the side of the potential adopting women as well as the side of the locals some of whom had to give their children up for adoption. Good cast includes Rita Moreno, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary Steenbergen, Daryl Hannah, Lili Taylor and Marcia Gay Harden. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Much talk, but not a whole lot of action. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member good indie drama from the indy master, John Sayles (lone star) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of the most boring and pointless wastes of time I have ever endured. Watched it for a class on War, Terror, and Globalization. The movie made no sense, had no redeeming qualities, and the only thing good about it is that its over rather quickly. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting is good but the action is slow and talky. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Heartbreaking poverty is the first hurdle in this film. Music is a deeply haunting lament that will place pressure on the heartbreak. The naive stupidity of the American and Irish woman comes through brilliantly as the actor's progress through the thickly laden dialogue. If depressed this is not a movie for you to watch. Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Each woman is a cardboard cutout, and the talented actresses here seem boxed in by their roles.
