Fannie Hurst Modern Screen Casanova Brown finds its way, straight as the crow flies, to your funny bone, and your approval. Jun 15, 2023 Full Review Jay Carmody Washington Star On the whole, without managing to be a great comedy, Producer Johnson's picture will make the Cooper following happy at the chance to see the lanky one playing again what looks like the typical American small-town guy. Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Cooper gives a charming performance as the timid teacher caught between two women, ex-wife and fiancee, but the fun resides in watching the macho star hold, feed, and raise a baby (long before Three Men and Cradle) Rated: B- Sep 30, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

paul d Sam Wood's Casanova Brown is a charming romantic comedy, eliciting from the audience wry smiles rather than guffaws. It's got plenty of good actors and a great premise, but in the end it seems a bit too forced, with everyone trying too hard. For example, there is a clever inversion of real life in the 40s here, with women making almost all the decisions, controlling the pursestrings, and being the authority figures. That is a great little trick to help set up the movie, but it is pushed too far when it renders Teresa Wright's new mother void of maternal instincts and knowledge. Teresa Wright is otherwise well-cast and believable, and Gary Cooper is on cruise control as an upright everyman with a twinkle in his eye. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ashley h Casanova Brown is a disappointing film. It is about Cass Brown who is about to marry for the second time. Gary Cooper and Teresa Wright give terrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Sam Wood did a horrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member While I was there I met a girl. Casanova Brown is a very awkward man. He was initially married, just finished a divorce, and is in the process of marrying another; however, his first wife tells him she is pregnant. During the process he is informed she plans to give the child up for adoption so he kidnaps the baby and becomes an overbearing father. The police and his ex-wife are on the hunt for Casanova Brown. "...if I had a gun..." "Would you like mine, sir?" Sam Wood, director of Madame X, Raffles, Our Town, Lord Jeff, Whipsaw, Stablemates, Navy Blue and Gold, Stamboul Quest, and The Girl from Missouri, delivers Casanova Brown. The storyline for this picture is very mediocre and not well done. The film felt extremely unrealistic and the comedic content was stale. The acting was just okay and the cast includes Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, Frank Morgan, and Anita Louise. "Is this the same fella that is supposed to marry all the others?" I came across this old Cooper film on Netflix and had to add it to my queue. This was kind of disappointing and the plot was clumsy and painful at times. The script could have been better. I recommend skipping this. "You're just a horror, Mr. Casanova." Grade: C- Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member gr8 cast makes this comedy go Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Gary Cooper is charming in this silly, light rom com Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Painfully bad! After hitting a home run 2 years earlier with Pride of the Yankees, director Sam Wood must have convinced Cooper and Wright to team up again, in spite of providing an insultingly stupid, illogical, insensitive script. One wonders if GC and TW had any integrity or taste. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
