matthias s **Casper: A Spirited Beginning – 1.5 Stars** I grew up loving the 1995 *Casper* movie, so I was curious to check out *Casper: A Spirited Beginning*. Unfortunately, this animated prequel is a letdown. The CGI looks really outdated, and it feels more like a low-budget project than a real film. There are a couple of funny moments, but it’s clear it’s made for kids and lacks depth. I wanted more backstory about Casper, especially since it’s a prequel, but the story is pretty shallow. The acting is just okay, and nothing really grabbed my attention. Honestly, it feels like something I could have made myself with some friends. Overall, I didn’t enjoy it and wouldn’t watch it again. It doesn’t have the charm of the original and just feels like a forgettable attempt to cash in on nostalgia. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Jonathan O Is this a family friendly or a Stephen King movie it's very weird "sequel" there's no characters mention from 1995 and Steve Guttenberg character is really a horrible father and dead pan unfunny character and the kids/teens are ruthless and cruel and really awful characters and the script is so bad and embarrassed and unfunny and there's no story and character development in this movie. And my gawd the vfx looks horrible is like was made for PC gamers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review SkyRo P Upon reading reviews of the film, I find myself puzzled by the differing opinions. Personally, I believe that "Casper" is a fantastic and magical movie that delivers great entertainment, particularly in its original form. The lovable character of Casper, along with the comical uncles, creates a delightful and enjoyable cinematic experience. Christina Ricci's performance is outstanding, and Devon Sawa shines as Casper, making the movie a standout in the genre. Despite my positive view, I feel that critics have not given this film the credit it truly deserves. It has rightfully earned its place as a classic and a beloved cult favorite. However, when it comes to the sequels like "Casper Meets Wendy," I must admit that the magic of the original film seems to have faded. The rushed and lacking plot fails to capture the charm of the first movie, leaving viewers feeling disconnected and unfulfilled. Similarly, "Casper: A Spirited Beginning" and "Casper's Haunted Christmas" fall short of replicating the success of the original. These films struggle to maintain the charm and appeal of the first movie, ultimately becoming forgettable and difficult to enjoy. While I have revisited the original "Casper" film numerous times, I have only watched the sequels a couple of times at most. The magic and nostalgia of the first movie remain unmatched, leaving the subsequent films unable to recapture the same enchanting quality. It's a stripped back version of the original in every way possible, with the animation - which, admittedly, isn't the greatest in the 1995 release - particularly standing out as being awful. The cast are OK, if entirely forgettable - perhaps with the exceptions of Chuck McGill, Michael McKean, and Mufasa, James Earl Jones. Let's see what 'Casper Meets Wendy' cobbles together...
