Bill Stamets Chicago Sun-Times This revelatory documentary lets us see what it's like to be an actress at an audition. Rated: 3/4 Aug 10, 2007 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader I thought I'd enjoy this, but it wound up giving me the creeps. Aug 10, 2007 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times A fascinating and surprisingly involving film. Rated: 4.5/5 Jun 14, 2007 Full Review Robert W. Butler Kansas City Star Casting About is less a documentary than a lyrical tribute to women in general. Strong women, confident women, nervous women, goofy women, beautiful women and just normal-looking women. This film adores them all. Rated: 3/4 Sep 21, 2007 Full Review Los Angeles Daily News Casting doesn't couch its message. Rated: 3/4 Jun 16, 2007 Full Review Doris Toumarkine Film Journal International Those viewers who tend to regard glasses half empty rather than half full will be appalled at what could pass for outright exploitation by the filmmakers. Audience Member An interesting concept, but just not expansive enough. Doesn't really delve into much. We miss the human story here. It's more like a compilation of screen tests and that gets a bit old. We need a little more rooting interest in this doc. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Kind of makes me hate the whole idea of "acting". Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This is trash....unfortunately. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The idea seemed interesting, but the movie never really pays off. It is a bit unrelenting with high-strung expectation just pouring off the actresses all the time. The little musical bits are nice, but not enough on their own to relax the feel. More information on the people doing the casting would have been nice (like you know, any at all), maybe some shots of the waiting room or something.
