j f There's some cheese, especially in first act. But it steadily improves throughout. Pretty good overall. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/24/23 Full Review Deke P 1940! John Garfield, Ann Sheridan. prison drama.. remake of 20,000 Years in Sing Sing. JOHN GARFIELD \, like Spencer Tracy, is a time criminal who has a hard time adjusting to prison. Figures he should treated special. Objects violently to being given a uniform. So the good warden, PAT O'BRIEN, puts him in the cooler, then lets him out and tells him he don't have to wear a uniform. But he is forced to wear his underwear. Then the Warden gives him a 'pass', and while out he gets n trouble. A young BURGESS MERIDETH is just another prisoner Giving it 3 Never heardo til on TV MOVIE CHANNEL, 2-23-23 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member If you were to follow the career trajectory of John Garfield you might feel, like I do, that his performance in this picture was starting to feel redundant. This was the sixth of seven performances where he played a criminal or outcast. The picture might hold your interest, but prove to be forgetful minutes after the final credits. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review s r Nothing new here. In fact, it was over the top and ridiculous. They allowed prisoners to do what they want. It got to be tedious and melodramatic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ashley h Castle on the Hudson is a decent film. It is about an arrogant mobster who is sentenced to a long prison term in Sing Sing. John Garfield and Ann Sheridan give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Anatole Litvak did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member John Garfields energetic style of acting really shows in this movie! Warner Bros. rarely succeeded at making effective drama films, but this one is an exception. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
