Man has found a new best friend: Tora, Pickles, Lucky, Zulu, Toodles, Flame and GoalKitty. These are just some of the lovable feline stars of director Mye Hoang’s debut documentary film CAT DADDIES. A heartwarming and tender portrait of a diverse group of men whose lives have been forever changed by their love of cats, CAT DADDIES takes us on an inspiring journey all across the United States during the challenging early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when people desperately needed hope and companionship. These nine “cat dads” come from all walks of life – a firefighter, a truck driver, a Hollywood stuntman, an ad executive turned cat rescuer, a police officer, a software engineer, an actor/Instagram influencer, a school teacher and an undocumented and disabled immigrant living on the streets of New York City. They couldn’t be any more different, but each of them has a compelling story to tell and share an unconditional love for their beloved cats. A refreshing and timely exploration of modern masculinity, CAT DADDIES shows us how being a “cat person” has no gender, and that the unlikely bond between man and cat is here to stay.

The stories vary in poignancy and aren’t all equally captivating. Still, for cat lovers there is enough heartwarming feline action to earn a recommend and if you’re a dog lover, this just might change your catitude.

We love our cats so when I saw a documentary about cats and their people I was excited. My husband, however, told me "there's better be nothing in here to cry about--I don't want to cry in public." Think about the impact.that cats have: My husband was afraid that the documentary would make him cry. I couldn't guarantee anything but I did cry at a few points. After the movie ended, I wanted more. Did everything work out well for everyone? I wanted to donate to a couple of the causes (but I donated to our local cat refuges instead). I wanted everyone to have a happy ending but that doesn't happen in real life. I was thrilled that we had a movie star at our premiere in Dallas. We got to meet Tora the Traveling Cat! Tora is so much more patient with people than my cat. I'm following everyone I can because I'm invested in the stars. Thank you!

A documentary on men who own cats and there are moments that pull your heart. When the film becomes an informercial it loses steam, but in general this is a nice empty calorie ride. Final Score: 8/10

Amazing movie! Have seen 4 times in theaters, twice during local film festivals (DIFF/Dallas International Film Festival and AFD/Asian Film Festival of Dallas) with the very talented filmmaker Mae Hoang in attendence for Q&A. Have recommended and encouraged fellow cat owners to see. Would see again!
