Critics Consensus

Halle Berry is the lone bright spot, but even she can't save this laughable action thriller.

David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Bereft of excitement and with action scenes similar to those we've seen a dozen times before, this is a very poor effort indeed. Rated: 1/5 Jun 29, 2015 Full Review Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader The screenplay's a hodgepodge of witchcraft, ancient Egyptian lore, pulp feminism, and a dash of S&M. May 3, 2014 Full Review Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal Catwoman's director, a visual-effects specialist named Pitof, is not contained by the rules of filmmaking. Scenes that make sense? Nonsense. Characters with inner lives? Utterly passe. Wing Hong C This makes Batman and Robin look like a Christopher Nolan movie Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/25 Full Review J. W My least favorite movie of all time. My daughter is named after Catwoman but certainly not this one. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/25 Full Review SkyRo P Halle Berry is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable actresses of all time and certainly ranks in my personal top ten. However, her role as Catwoman in the film of the same name was a missed opportunity that didn’t showcase her talents effectively. As an Oscar-winning actress, she deserved a project that would allow her to shine. While Berry is a captivating presence on screen, "Catwoman" ultimately suffered from a lack of depth in its antihero narrative, leading to an absurd plot filled with one of the most lackluster villains imaginable. I found it to be one of the most disappointing films ever made. Unfortunately, "Catwoman" failed to resonate with audiences, who largely panned it from start to finish. The storyline was weak, the cinematography uninspired, and the writing left much to be desired. The only redeeming quality was Halle Berry’s exceptional performance, which she valiantly tried to carry throughout the film. However, even her remarkable talent couldn’t salvage a script that veered off course in all the wrong ways, ultimately leaving viewers unsatisfied. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/04/25 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie. Can't believe the negative reviews on it. Then to top it off that Hailey won the Ripley's award for worst actress! What's wrong with people, she should won best actress! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review César S OMG! This is horrible and we have good actors on it Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Nick R An absolute disaster on every front. Awful action, terrible characters, a ridiculously horrible plot, and terrible direction. It completely ignores all references to the comics to the point where even her name is different. Halle Berry is a great talent, and this movie (if you can even call it that) completely dishonors her. As far as bad superhero movies go, this is the bottom of the barrel.
