While I would argue its reputation is a bit worse than what it deserves, it doesn't have any redeeming qualities either. It's shot in a style-over-substance manner, the writing is messy, the soundtrack is very intrusive, and perhaps surprisingly, it contains what may very well be the worst basketball scene ever. Other than that, it's mostly watchable, and the fact that the first part feels like a rom-com is a welcome tonal choice that actually informs the rest of the film too, if only partially.

Saw this in the cinema 21 years ago and oh my god it is even worse today. How is this becoming a cult classic? Unfortunately the brilliant Halle Berry is absolutely terrible in this - so is the rest of the cast… just cringe the entire movie. What a total embarrassment for everyone involved 🙈😳
