Maria Angela B The film is written and paced in a way that you feel grieving for: the migrants, the protagonist and her dead lover. It dealt with mental health. Her life is in parallel with Lin, both losing their lovers. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Patrick B Could of have been better if Subtitles better. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/22/24 Full Review Richard B Just one unbelievable scene after another. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Dave C It has flourishes of compelling and gripping writing, acting, and storyline, but these come across as part of a run of drills in how to make a cliched, trope-tastic mystery-crime-thriller, that feel more like an art school lesson in performance than a movie. The professionalism displayed by the cast is admirable, though almost severe as history of both culture and art dictate everything… almost to the point of being a directorial puppet show - a sign that the director is overbearing, and therefore giving a deliberate, clunky, emotionally stunted on-screen story that should be so much more thrilling and captivating than it ends up being Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Kay S Great movie, stayed very true to the crime/thriller/cop genre and did it well. I was engrossed throughout the movie and can't find anything to fault it. Acting, cinematography, and story was all excellent. Would recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Sean C I wasn't expecting to be hooked by this above-average, melodramatic serial killer thriller. Have never been to Taipei, but unlike Harlan Coben schlock-shock predictables set in London/Europe, where, apparently, it never rains and the Sun always shines, here, in The Abandoned it never stops raining and feels clingingly damp and gloomy for most of the film's run-time. Loved it, particularly the dynamics of the interactions between Wu Jie (main character, lead detective) and various et al.: Cai (young rookie), Jeng her boss, the young man (name?), who seems to have something to do with the criminality being plumbed., and finally the villain at the center of the plot. Oh, and Wu drives a Ford. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
