Carrie (Joy LeDuc) is a teenage figure-skater who, despite the fanatic devotion of her pushy stage mother (Shirley Knight), isn't cutting it as a singles skater. She finds an unlikely pairs partner in Peter (James Vincent McNichol), a converted ice hockey player. As the two train together, they develop a friendship while also forming a chemistry as skating partners. Eventually, the relationship blossoms into first love. However, tragedy looms on the horizon.
