Clarisse Loughrey Kermode & Mayo's Film Review You get a Sia song in the middle, which is quite nice, but not really worth an entire watch...it feels like you're watching echoes of other movies. Aug 2, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's mostly moronic and lazy, but some of the pop ditties are nice. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2019 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian Mothers, lock up your daughters - the under 10s. Whatever you do, keep them away from this animated fairytale adventure running on 13% girl power. Rated: 2/5 Aug 1, 2019 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut A toad. Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 11, 2022 Full Review Jade Budowski Decider Charming squanders a fun premise with lackluster animation, sloppy storytelling, and weird musical numbers. Jan 11, 2021 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers It's trying to be feminist but I'm not sure decrying the young heroine for wanting to be paid commensurate with her (exceptional) skills is the way to go. Still, some of the songs are good, and Sia is excellent as a particularly ineffective Oracle. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 9, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Alessandro B the film is not bad, it has an interesting premise, a complete reinterpretation of the most stereotypical fantasy fairy tale. although I find the muscali numbers a little excessive, as if they were trying to copy a disney movie. could have been developed better without a doubt. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review Atty M. I feel like I just wasted an hour of my life. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review Zachary M Knife goes in. Knife twists. Knife goes out. NEVER WATCH THIS! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Crystal S Funny, cute story. Loved the music! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/06/22 Full Review Audience Member I think this movie is meant to point out problems with fairy tales and people are taking it literally. If you take this movie at its surface denotation then I understand why you might not see it is as significant, but if are someone who likes noticing and contemplating connotations, this film is rich in meaning for adults in my opinion, one of the most significant animated films I have ever seen and I have seen many. I think it seems to be rich in hints, almost every minute of the film. Geniusly written and animated. Watch the animation and verbal expressions closely and pay attention to what might prompt you to think about the following themes (among others): what might parents want to bring up with their children, how the storyline and animation reflect on issues related to teens and preteens. For example, the song "Trophy Boy" - check out the details of the lyrics, e.g., "I like him for his smile, I like him for his hair, I like him for his style...I know I wasn't listening but he's totally funny. I don't really care if he ever makes a sound, just as long as when you see me he's around..." - seems to show how teens and pre-teens focus on appearance and how that can impact a young man's self concept and concept of what real love really means. Also, the three pictures the girl's have don't look posed like girlfriend pictures but like pictures they took at school when he wasn't ready - how could that apply today to parents, and also how the pre-teen Snow White expresses the effects of trauma throughout the movie, etc.), what blind spots do we have a culture, what do fairly tales might potentially accidentally teach children through role modeling, etc., (depends on the child but especially for young men - for example, jumping off cliffs, running around with knife-like objects, being mushed and not dying, etc.,), ways people groups are stereotyped in cartoon movies (the Italians, the French, visually impaired, indigenous people), issues related to young men, etc. The animators are very exact in their visualizations, pay attention to your gut reactions to things, tap into your parental instincts (I'm not a parent but I did!) and enjoy the journey. I'm watching it several times and I caught a bunch of things I missed the first time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Horrible movie. Teaches awful values. Would never allow a young impressionable child to watch this. Teaches being a greedy in- sensative thief pays. Mocks anyone with mental issues due to abuse and other situations outside their control. So sad, promoting a no value society. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
