      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It's sweet, gentle, and affably modest, but Chasing Mavericks is ultimately pulled under by an unconvincing script and a puzzling lack of energy.

Joshua T I watch this movie today and I was like not expecting it to be as good I just wanted something to watch in this movie actually was better than I expected the actors in it were phenomenal and now I would like to watch this again with my wife probably up there and I knew favorite movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review SkyRo P #Moviereview #Disneyplus #TrueStory #LiveLikeJay #ChasingMavericks Chasing Mavericks is a fox movie that is now property of Walt Disney and can be found on Disney+ This movie is based on a true story and is very well done, it's one of Gerard Butler Beginning films, so it's nice to see him in a different element, and playing more of a teacher role This movie is about a child who doesn't have a father, who does everything it takes to accomplish something that he wants to accomplish in his life no matter what. It is definitely a great movie to sit down and watch and I'm glad as part of the Disney franchise now. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Marlene A I get why lots of critics call it cheesy, it is! The 3 stars go for the waves and because it's based on a real person. I would bet it's just loosely based on a real story. The scenes with Frosty's wife acting like an angel were so..... so.... well, cheesy. Overall it was entertaining. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review Emilliano Jr S I thought that this was better than Soul Surfer. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review grey Great movie... if you're into the lifestyle of a surfer, or sports movies that show the journey leading up to that big moment (every sports movie). The story itself is inspirational and heartwarming, and the shots are visually breathtaking. The acting is subpar and the storyline could have used some work. Overall, this is a story that was bound to be shared, and I think the film did a great job capturing and expressing who Jay Moriarty was as a person, and as a surfer. One of my all time favorite comfort films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review isla s This is a nice enough story and film. It appears like a TV film. There's nothing especially bad about it, its just a little cliched, or predictable, if anything and maybe a little cheesy. There's not much more to say about it. I wouldn't particularly recommend it, no. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard Like waves beating on a shore, the guff just keeps on coming. Rated: 2/5 Jul 5, 2013 Full Review Henry Barnes Guardian The script's a drowner, the acting's awash. Again and again Butler returns to the sea. He just about survives the buffeting. Rated: 2/5 Jul 4, 2013 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) [A] neap tide of mush. Rated: 1/5 Jul 4, 2013 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review Not only beautiful to watch, but also occasionally inspirational. Rated: B- Sep 18, 2021 Full Review Brian D. Johnson Maclean's Magazine The surf footage is astounding, especially at the climax of the story's quest. But the story itself lacks juice. The movie seems designed purely as an inspirational monument to its young hero, and it comes across as hagiography. Jul 31, 2019 Full Review Sarah Gopaul Digital Journal Riding 30-foot waves is testing your luck, regardless of your skill level. But watching the skillful manipulate the swells and currents is awe-inspiring. Chasing Mavericks is a beautiful picture about dedication in all aspects of life.
