rex W @RT11010153 Mar 30 "Chicago" is a musical with a lot of energy. The dance and singing sequences are very well done. Catherine Zeta Jones is smoking hot. Renee Zellweger is perfectly cast. Queen Latifah is at her best. Even Richard Gere is surprisingly good. "Chicago" probably could have used one more grand dance scene to help balance out the strong first half. But as it stands, it is a fun production that is worthy of its accolades. The music is brilliant (unsurprisingly) but the cast then nail each of their performances from Renée Zellweger to Richard Gere and Queen Latifah. The stand-out, in my humble opinion, is Catherine Zeta-Jones whose raw, vulnerable energy in I Can't Do It Alone is something at which to marvel. I love rewatching this. Movie magic, as they say.
