      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A rousing and energetic adaptation of the Broadway musical, Chicago succeeds on the level of pure spectacle, but provides a surprising level of depth and humor as well.

Margaret W Look: it's a very fun watch, and the incorporation of musical numbers as part of a vaudeville performance running parallel to the action is excellently creative. There are some really eye-catching visuals in here ("We Both Reached For The Gun" and "Roxie" have my personal favorites), so all-in-all, it's a very enjoyable evening for anyone not opposed to some salacious razzle-dazzle. That said, it's not particularly deep or impactful persay, so I'd recommend it mostly for people in want of the spectacle. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Rishi M i cant make the rating zero stars this is the closest i can get. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Teddy B It is an absolute shame that Rob Marshall never made anything after 'Chicago' that didn't have its level of ambition, spectacle, humour, personality, and depth. I couldn't understand it at first, but as I watched it, I could very easily understand why it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review Alfred K I thought the movie Chicago was sensational & would give it a 100% rating. I loved the music, acting, humor & cinematography. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Ray F Un muy buen musical, una historia digna de un clásico Chicago, bien explicado y entrelazando cada personaje expresando y cantando de buena manera, con escenarios muy bien realizados. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review Alec C Sleek and stylish, this film entails the media's love for murderers with a musical flush! As two imprisoned killers attempt to avoid the noose, they begin to swing the media to their side through some fluorescent flare and deranged dance numbers. Whether you hate these characters are not, this is not a musical of good triumphing, especially in Chicago! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Namrata Joshi Outlook Chicago's so engrossing that you even forget to reach out for the Coke n' popcorn. Now isn't that entertainment! Rated: 3/4 Jan 3, 2019 Full Review Barbara Ellen Times (UK) In effect it is filmed theatre, but this brings its own compensations: the more fake Chicago looks, the more real it seems to get. Jan 3, 2018 Full Review James Christopher Times (UK) What makes this more than a film of a great stage show is the way that the action spills seamlessly from the stage sets into real life. Magic. Feb 25, 2015 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand A couple of songs were left behind and I find the rat-a-tat editing distracting from the performances and musical numbers....
