Audience Member Follows the young writer as his family sinks further into poverty in 19th century Russia. The film has quite a few lovely details even if it becomes repetitive toward the end. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie really reminded me of childhood memories! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A dramatization of Gorky's autobiography, chronicling his life as a child dealing with an absent mother, an abusive grandfather, and poverty. It's certainly filmed very nicely and some of the anecdotes are interesting, but they're not put together in any compelling way. Some of the acting is quite poor as well. All in all, it's a watchable movie but nothing to get too excited about. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member (***): Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Good early Russian film with surprisingly little propaganda.
