Liam D Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (Betrayed, Nowhere to Run) (best known for trashy erotic Thrillers) gives an interesting telling of one of the important moments in Olympics history with some fantastic acting Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review s r An inspiring story that overlapped with the Russian occupation of Hungary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting effect of combining british, hungarian and american cinematography. Story by Joe Eszterhas (screenwriter of Basic Insint) produced by Andrew Vajna - the mean behind such blockbusters like Total Recall or Basic Instinct... Music by Nick Glennie Smith. Interesting story with emotional background. Worth seing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A great telling of one of the more heinous acts in world history, and one of the more uplifting sports achievements in world history. In 1956 the USSR invaded, and quite ruthlessly conquered, Hungary. Almost simultaneously, the Hungarian water polo team defeating USSR in the Melbourne Olympic Games in a very spite-ridden match - the "Blood in the Water" match. Told from the perspective of a fictional member of the Hungarian water polo team, the plot is great and direction solid. No drifting, and you can feel the anger building up as the Soviets, and their Hungarian toadies, commit evil act after evil act. This makes the come-uppance of the water polo match even sweeter. Solid performances all round. Great movie for many reasons, not least being the historical lesson. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Engrossing film which encompasses the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and showcases the "blood in the water" 1956 Melbourne Olympic water polo match between Hungary and Russia. Hungary has an appalling history of oppression and this movie shows a touching human side to their tragic past. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member yeah very serious, moving, noble subject, but the movie itself was flat, boring, partial, irritating. and the only question that it posed was why this match matters, cause in the movie the only one that care about it are hungarians living in Australia, so what's the point, so people who run the country and are safe could feel better ? and this awful supposed-to-be-light/funny/patriotic mini speeches thrown in your face every five minutes. devastating Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Matt Singer Time Out Chicago The sports-movie clichs and war-movie clichs go together like oil and water polo, but there's no denying the power of this inspiring (mostly) true story. Rated: 3/5 Sep 14, 2011 Full Review Tom Dawson BBC.com A Hollywood-friendly version of these tragic events, with the star water polo player Karcsi (Ivan Fenyo) forced to choose between possible Olympic glory and his loyalty to student revolutionary girlfriend Viki (Kata Dobo). Rated: 3/5 Mar 18, 2008 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Legendary screenwriter Joe Eszterhas brings his sledgehammer touch to this heartfelt movie about Hungary, the embattled country of his forebears. Rated: 3/5 Mar 14, 2008 Full Review Daily Mirror (UK) The 1956 Hungarian Revolution is the setting for this enjoyable drama in which love triumphs over evil. Rated: 3/5 Mar 14, 2008 Full Review Jim Hall Film4 A worthy subject and some impressive sequences, but Children Of Glory is a would-be epic emerging as a clumsy culture clash. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 14, 2008 Full Review Total Film Coming across like Doctor Zhivago with water sports, this sweeping drama tells of a romance between the star player of Hungary's invincible water polo team and a young radical caught up in the country's 1956 uprising.
