01/07/2018 This movie follows the life of a young man selling Christmas trees in New York. It isn't a typical movie or holiday movie by any means, and all the better for it. True shoe-gazer filmmaking, it's a quietly natural look at the holiday season from the perspective of a lonely Christmas tree salesman, someone who benefits from yet resents the potential consumerist blinders. However, its cynicism is never engulfing, instead allowing kindness and goodwill to weave through the inherent sadness in unexpectedly cozy ways. A nice change of pace from the often overwhelming movie merriment of December. See more 12/20/2016 As a former graveyard security guard, I can say that this film nailed the loneliness of minimal human interaction during long, dark winter nights. This is not a happy Christmas movie; or even a Christmas movie at all. It is a great demonstration of what can be done with grounded, intimate storytelling on a tiny budget.
