SkyRo P Another film I recently watched was the Hallmark-esque "Christmas in Notting Hill." This romantic comedy follows the classic trope of two individuals from different backgrounds who find love and experience a festive transformation. Regrettably, the movie suffers from poor scriptwriting. The screenplay was so disjointed that it was challenging to stay engaged with the story. There were so many confusing twists and turns that it left me perplexed, especially when the female lead would express anger over situations that seemed clear-cut from the start. Without giving away too much, I’ll refrain from drawing any definitive conclusions about the plot. Sadly, the film fell victim to the typical Hallmark formula, featuring a lead actor or actress with some level of recognition alongside an unknown counterpart who is just beginning their acting journey. In this case, both leads were relatively unfamiliar, which detracted from the overall impact of the storyline and made the film feel flat. Moreover, I felt the casting was off. The female lead, despite her efforts, didn’t quite match the energy or talent of her co-stars. She seemed out of place, which made it difficult to fully invest in her character or the romance that was supposed to blossom. Overall, "Christmas in Notting Hill" left much to be desired. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/24 Full Review bernadette w horrific….lead female actor is awkward, wooden and is a nasty self centered person. Beyond unbelievable that an “ educated” woman would have an issue dating a famous person….no chemistry at all..,,made me wanting to clean my bathroom rather than finishing the movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Tess F The script and plot are so contrived. It seems as if they started with a storyboard and used AI to create a generic script. This could have been much more enjoyable had they hired a gifted writer. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Chaz J Really wanted to like this movie. But, just can't finish it. The female lead is supposed to be an "American ". What? She looks and speaks European! Horrible casting! Couldn't get past that. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Barbie B The male leads in this rom com are great! However, the female lead is such an unlikable character. Throwing tantrums left and right which leave you asking why? She’s always upset in this movie and it takes away from the essence of this movie. The writing missed the mark. This could’ve been great. But not even close Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Ric W The writing was bad, the acting was awkward and the conflicts were forced, but it was good for what it was supposed to be, a completely feel good holiday romantic movie. The movie was a quick watch, and I was left with a smile and a little tear in my eye. I also wanted to immediately start decorating for the holidays. That’s the purpose of a holiday movie.
