jordan b @shescinematic 1d This missed, all of the marks. I’d give it half a star but I went with one—because it was so bad I couldn’t stop watching. I’ve never seen a movie that had a plot with such potential fail miserably to execute anything well. I’m not pretentious in my holiday movie taste and appreciate everything from Hallmark fluff to classics, but I can’t appreciate this and I tried 😭 It starts strong with a couple of decent actors (not the protagonist) and the intention and potential to be really funny, then veers into awkward, unfunny territory. There are countless small, unimpactful plot points that are so easy to forget—until the movie awkwardly tries (and fails) to tie them together. Nothing lands. Not a single thing. A co-dependent father daughter relationship. A dad sleeping with someone his daughter’s age, who treats her peer like her child after her mom recently died. The audience being gaslit into thinking the daughter is the bad guy for being weirded out that her dad is dating her high school frenemy. It’s not festive or funny. I couldnt tell if it was a movie about friendships or a coming of age movie or a romantic comedy. Dare I say the girlfriend is the most well adjusted of the trio? I only finished it to see if they all went their separate ways. The only way this got green lit was bc this was a wet dream. It totally changed my perception of Dylan McDermott and you should skip it. We’re not gonna normalize this and act like it’s OK. See more Jessica H Nov 8 If you're looking for feel-good Christmas movie- avoid this one. Mulroney plays a widowed father dating his daughters high-school nemesis. This is wrong on SO MANY levels, where to start? Gives creepy vibes- what grown man would date a girl his daughter's age? In every encounter between the two girls, he sides with his young, hot girlfriend, completely ignoring how this would be traumatizing to his daughter. What handsome, successful businessman couldn't find a woman to date that is age-appropriate? Amazed that this storyline cleared production without several people pumping the brakes with a "Eeewwww! This is WRONG!" Even making the gf a senior when his daughter was a freshman in high-school would have felt a little more believable. Mulroney can do and deserves better. See more 01/19/2022 Cute!
