The series looks gravelled for cash but compensates with documentary direction and Ian McDairmid's voice, as rich as a liqueur.

This is an overcrowded London of impoverished masses, where the crime is rampant and corruption the order of the day and where upholding the law isn't always the same as seeing justice done.

Very interesting especially since I've read some Fielding and this side of his life is so different from his writing. A great watch

Really good series even if it is hard to see "Senator Palpatine" - Ian McDiarmid as a good guy :)

This series tells about how Henry Fielding author of "Tom Jones" and Magistrate in London started the first proper police service in the City. It shows that even though we might not like everything our Government and Police do, things are in general a lot better than they were.
