Critics Consensus

Clerks II dishes up much of the graphic humor and some of the insight that made the 1994 original a cult hit.

Nigel Andrews Financial Times The emetic outpouring of buddy love in the last reel deserves the adults-only certificate that the rest narrowly escapes. Rated: 3/5 Sep 23, 2006 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Like so many passion projects from filmmakers without much oversight, it often feels as if the cast is having more fun shooting the picture than audiences could possibly have while watching it. Rated: 4/10 Sep 22, 2022 Full Review Cory Woodroof 615 Film This is a very good film in spurts, and a bizarre, rusted time capsule in other ways. Jun 25, 2022 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site Badly written, directed and acted, it sheds no light on anything. This is American 'independent' filmmaking at its worst. Tonya K Raunchy and hilarious Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/02/24 Full Review Ishara L Movie # 1533 I see what Kevin Smith was trying to do, and he gets close to it, but it doesn't land. Sometimes it's just really awkward with camera positions, tonal shifts and overal feeling. Still had some fun though! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review Eye C Ok, now they can do something with heart… it's still stupid, but Rosario Dawson gives some sort of seriousness… or something… Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review matthias s Clerks 2 is a worthy sequel to the 1994 cult classic. While it doesn't quite reach the same level of wit and humor as the original, it still manages to deliver plenty of laughs. The returning cast members all give great performances, particularly Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson as Dante and Randal. The new additions to the cast, particularly Rosario Dawson as Becky, also fit in well and add to the film's dynamic. The story picks up a few years after where the first film left off and takes the characters on a new journey that is both funny and poignant. The commentary on modern society and relationships is spot on and well executed. Clerks 2 is a solid follow-up that is sure to please fans of the original. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/09/23 Full Review Cork B There is some really witty, insightful comedic dialogue here. it is too bad that it is overshadowed by obscenities and a horrible horrible donkey scene. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review Marc Z This is part of a large series of low budget movies with a huge following that started with Clerks, the predecessor. There is a level of sarcasm and insightful, societal humor in this film that is just causticly funny. I hate say this but if you don't think this movie is funny it may be because the type of people targeted by Kevin Smith and the gangs' humor are you. The movie takes a look at struggling young people in the Suburbs. Jay and Silent Bob are engaging in every scene. They surpass the actual stars, Dante and Randal, and became a life of their own. Rosario Dawson, as Becky, is delightful. Ben Affleck is great because he gets it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
