Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard It never distinguishes between its moving human stories and a general eco-activism, which does nothing much to sharpen their individual cases. Rated: 2/5 Jun 11, 2010 Full Review Xan Brooks Guardian "It's the biggest unsustainable development on the planet," says one campaigner, indirectly explaining the need for three films that tell us that. Form and content in perfect harmony. Rated: 2/5 Jun 10, 2010 Full Review Patrick Peters Empire Magazine Walsh's documentary is shot with flair but its message and innovative touches just miss the mark. Rated: 2/5 Jun 10, 2010 Full Review Matthew Turner ViewLondon H2Oil is a hard-hitting, if thoroughly depressing eco-documentary that demands to be seen. Rated: 3/5 Jun 11, 2010 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Sadly, the lacklustre expert testimonies and lengthy sequences of executive intransigence in the face of community indignation fail to grab the attention, rendering this a laudable but dull expos of a growing environmental concern. Rated: 2/5 Jun 11, 2010 Full Review Anton Bitel Film4 While H2Oil undeniably addresses important environmental and economic issues, it might, in keeping with its subject, have been more, well, slick. Audience Member Pretty good movie.. Pretty sad the way Canada is ran though Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Informative and well done, but a little boring at times Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member a doc thats asks questions about oil and its effects on water, and health, and its current global situation here concentrating on a piece of vast land in canada where oil export is big business. a interesting enough doc that tries its best to get to the bottom of issues concerning this, although no, Inconvenient truth or other docs of this kind, its worth the watch if only to introduce you to the situation Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Mike M Hot on the heels of "Crude", "Dirty Oil" and "Petropolis", this latest bitumentary has assumed some urgency in the wake of the BP oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico, offering renewed pause to consider out (mis)management of the Earth's natural resources, yet risks inducing a form of non-fiction compassion fatigue: haven't we seen this before, we might ask, and then - even if the answer's "well, not exactly, no" - just how many resources are being burnt up bringing these films to the attention of (evidently limited) audiences?... There's one wry footnote, tied to the notion of Canadian selflessness: under the terms of NAFTA, the energy produced will only ever benefit the country's gas-guzzling neighbours to the south. Otherwise, it's more a record of one campaign, designed to offer cold comfort to North American activists, than an essential tool or provocation, as the best of this agit-doc cycle have been - I did wonder what UK audiences were supposed to take away from the film, other than a renewed sense of resignation or a kind of complacency. After all, with two docs in two months on this very region alone, it's clear a close eye is being kept on the tar sands - it's the docs we *aren't* seeing we might, perhaps, be most concerned about. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/13/10 Full Review Audience Member one of the many reasons why i'm glad i didn't end up choosing a career in oil and gas. were it not for my stint in pulp and paper, oil sands is where i'd be working right now.... and i think my conscience would be killing me. =( Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member [29th Atlantic Film Festival] A documentary on the pollution caused my collection oil from the tar sands in Alberta. Informative but dry. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
