An unnamed author of children's books (Madeleine Stowe) is woken from her bed in the middle of the night and taken from her home to a bland office where she faces an unnamed interrogator (Alan Rickman). Her book -- about a young girl who has been locked in a closet as punishment and the innocent creatures she meets there -- has been accused of harboring hidden anti-government messages. As the interrogator and his victim spar, secrets are revealed that raise even deeper questions.

I am of course opposed to torture, but I preserve sufficient irony to be offended by the smugness of this film. Go to Full Review

Strong performances by Rickman and Stowe, yet the film (about torture) fails to engage on a visceral level Go to Full Review

Steve D 02/23/2023 The cast make the most of an ok script. See more 01/18/2022 Atrapante. La química de ambos actores mantiene la atención durante cada segundo del filme. Alan Rickman hace gala de su histrionismo, causando tensión aún cuando su personaje aparenta estar calmado. See more 04/24/2020 The movie seem like a theater production and Rickman rules the stage. Also, the writer is way up her own rear end. See more 12/04/2018 I watched that film , Seriously it's so prefect and I think that all scenes describe the real truth about interrogating people without any permission. With sadism and torture , Pain and some tragic memories from the victim when she was young. Alan rickmen was prefect actor to act that sadistic interrogator. He made me cry because of his way of torture, and I thought that I was the victim. But I couldn't understand the ending scene yet and made me think if she would be alive or dead. Actually This film describes what happens in some countries, like in middle east for example. See more 10/15/2015 Seriously surprised at how this film grabbed my attention. It starts off a bit slow because they take their time telling you why the woman was kidnapped etc. The big reveal at the end wasn't a total shock, but still a good reveal. What makes this film strong is the reveal and the acting. Rickman really surprised me with his voice-changing and attempt at being three people. Bit of a mind-boggler, but definitely worth one watch. If you're a Rickman fan, this is a good one to see. I liked it and I know I'll see it again in the future. See more 10/23/2013 Excellent performance from both actors. Powerful subject matter expertly handled. See more Read all reviews
