A stylish, subversive thriller from suspense-maverick Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse), concerning Yoshii, an ambitious, yet directionless, young factory worker from Tokyo who side hustles in the murky realm of black market reselling, cheating buyers and sellers alike. After swindling his way into loads of cash, he becomes slowly disconnected to humanity, moving out of the city, shunning his girlfriend, and hiring a devoted assistant. But after a series of mysterious, sinister incidents occur, he begins to suspect his former victims could be plotting the ultimate revenge. A master of carefully simmering tension to a bloody crescendo, Kurosawa delivers a searing portrait of digital greed and vengeance.

Kurosawa’s steady control of mood and indefatigable narrative – if this becomes an action film, it ’s not geared to our titillation – prevent any of this from becoming didactic. Go to Full Review

A story rich in dark humor, violence, and even unexpected flirtations with Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

A sneaky tale of savagery in the dehumanizing digital age, writer-director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Cloud” is as bleak a warning as you’ll find in theaters this year. Go to Full Review

Enrico Aug 3 Great tension throughout with some comedic moments here and there. See more Sam S Oct 16 Finally, a thriller about the worst person in the world: the scalper. See more AC B Oct 14 Too many people aren't understanding the allegory of this movie which is surprising because it lays it on pretty thick. Once you realize Yoshii represents modern tech bros and corporations and his "assistant" represents world governments, the ending scene makes the message of the film absolutely crystal clear. It's a horror film in the way it holds up a mirror to our horrific current economic structures. See more Pascal D Oct 11 Loved this movie Very interesting See more Virginia L Oct 10 This film started out interesting, with good actors and a sensible plot. But it suddenly turned into an extremely violent film for no particular reason. See more J C Oct 9 Teen assistant suddenly becomes a hit man? Ex-boss, ex-friend, random sellers and angry customers all turn into assassins? Absurd. The fact that critics rated it so high saddens me deeply. It's a very shallow movie that falls flat on its message. See more Read all reviews
