A stylish, subversive thriller from suspense-maverick Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse), concerning Yoshii, an ambitious, yet directionless, young factory worker from Tokyo who side hustles in the murky realm of black market reselling, cheating buyers and sellers alike. After swindling his way into loads of cash, he becomes slowly disconnected to humanity, moving out of the city, shunning his girlfriend, and hiring a devoted assistant. But after a series of mysterious, sinister incidents occur, he begins to suspect his former victims could be plotting the ultimate revenge. A master of carefully simmering tension to a bloody crescendo, Kurosawa delivers a searing portrait of digital greed and vengeance.

Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times A story rich in dark humor, violence, and even unexpected flirtations with Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 11, 2025 Full Review Jen Yamato Washington Post A sneaky tale of savagery in the dehumanizing digital age, writer-director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Cloud” is as bleak a warning as you’ll find in theaters this year. Rated: 3.5/4 Aug 8, 2025 Full Review Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Kurosawa’s slow, patient direction throws just enough stones into the stagnant waters of Ryosuke’s life to make the vengeance of those he has harmed seem almost justified. Rated: 4/5 Jul 31, 2025 Full Review Ryan Swen Taipei Mansions Feels of a piece with Eyes of the Spider in its approach to violence and the numbing consequences of economic manipulation. Sep 5, 2025 Full Review Karina Adelgaard Heaven of Horror Personally, I tend to prefer the South Korean style over the Japanese one, but Cloud brings us closer to the kind of storytelling you’d typically expect from South Korea. Rated: 3/5 Aug 21, 2025 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J. Cinema "Cloud" is not a fun watch, but it isn’t a dull one either. There are thrilling moments and a few twists that keep you engaged, but you won’t leave it feeling happy about the world. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 15, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Enrico Great tension throughout with some comedic moments here and there. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/25 Full Review Kevin L Disappointed that this just imploded into a shootout. Just didn't feel like there was enough of a body of work in the story line leading to the last third of the movie. Seen this plot many times to want to see it again. Abduct, tie up, threaten to kill but don't actually kill cuz they talk & talk; the abducted gets freed by a friend/accomplice, then goes action figure. And since when was Sano a Charles Bronson character? The performances were generally fine. The tone was maintained well enough, and the pacing was fine. But this fell apart for me. And that last scene was a bit absurd. Suddenly he cares so much for the person he'd come to all but ignore or take for granted, but who was actually just a gold digger that he cries over? 2.9 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Muhammad T Definitely not a horror movie, Its pure drama, thats it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review prawnda s it's pretty good stuff, i enjoyed most of it, but by the third act it begins to lose direction. i would recommend it, but i would also say that kurosawa has made better films. if you are looking for grounded and human scares rather than supernatural ones, and if you don't want to watch anything seriously gruesome, this is a decent and less serious thriller. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Lon W SO I SAW NOBODY 2 ON THURSDAY AND AMERICANA FRIDAY SO CLOUD WAS MY THIRD FILM IN A ROW THAT ENDED WITH A BLOODY SHOOT OUT WITH MULTIPLE CHARACTERS. THAT ASIDE I LIKED THIS BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA WHERE THEY WERE HEADING. AN EBAY SCAMMER WHO FINALLY SCREWS THE WRONG PEOPLE. BETRAYAL AND BLOODSHED. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review Mark F It’s ironic that this film is about a scam artist because whoever edited the trailer scammed us, it looked like it was going to be a really interesting thriller and given the directors background I thought there would be some horror elements too, the trailer looked great but the story is really flat and slow until right at the end when it gets ridiculous. I usually like the slow pacing of Japanese cinema, but the first act of this meandered too much, showing unnecessary elements but missing out answering questions we needed answering. There is a lot of great cinema happening right now, but this pointless story that doesn’t go anywhere, save your money and go and see something else. Together or Weapons were both infinitely more entertaining that this mess. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
