      Mark P This is a real gem. It is at once a dark noir film focused on revenge and a romantic drama focused on the values that sustained the West through WWII. Movies that mix elements haphazardly always leave me cold, but in this case everything is tied together by the skillfully crafted plot. The interaction between the protagonist and the inspector is reminiscent of Crime and Punishment. Highly recommended. It's interesting that the hero does catch the murderer, but then you realize that the film is just half over... So what happens now? It does turn on a pretty strange plot detour, and it ends unsatisfactorily. No Heroes here folks. Not really worth your time.
