TIM C action packed with a heart & full of gut-trenching motions Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/27/21 Full Review Michael G Maybe times have changed but I doubt the authorities would consider choosing to save a small town (by Chinese standards) at the expense of a ten year major tunnel project. Ths father saluting to his son after falling backward off the mountain was straight out of the Party playbook. Corny yes, but the cinematography and special effects were ok. Not sure what they did to get all those little kids to cry so well but it was worth it. Il cinema cinese ad alto budget continua a sfornare dei film gradevoli, altamente spettacolari e con trame nel complesso ambiziose e non limitate a pochi eventi. Il problema principale sta nello sviluppo noioso dei personaggi e dei dialoghi, assolutamente mai interessanti per chi è abituato a film del genere già da decenni. Il finale è oggettivamente troppo forzato e melodrammatico; diventa veramente goliardico. Le location, seppure quasi tutte computerizzate; sono piuttosto innovative per il genere. Father/son interaction was more complex than it needed to be and I'm glad it was. Ding Yajun had some moving moments at the crisis headquarters and with the tunnelers. SPOILER ALERT: The final scene with the tunnelers protesting the blasting was odd since their families were probably in the town they were being asked to save. The final leap was over-the-top unrealistic. I often wonder how much national pride plays into foreign films that make it to the US. Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Muscle & Brain, Thrilling & Touching. ------ Learnt about "Railway Soldiers" (Railway troops). They are definitely muscles + brains, meaning, soldiers at same time engineers. Yizhou Hong and his father are two generations of them. They are non stoppable. Free climbing to the most extreme, diving without equipment and car racing like a roller coaster. But hey, by feeling the air they know where the outlet of a cave is and with a tablet, they analyze geometry, landslip, weather and what not. And ready to beat up a boss guy yelling at his girlfriend. Very cool. Have to say bravo to Yilong Zhu's playing Yizhou Hong. All the physical scenes and PhD+ scholar activities aside, he honestly and heartfeltly portrayed a man, protecting and needing protection, assuring and needing assurance. Very complicated role, layer by layer, eventually, dynamic and intense character presented by solid acting. Impressed by the special effects and touching story. Almost felt like at the scene because the vivid presentations. Brought to tears at a few moments. Not forced into, just couldn't help it. Still feeling it as of writing.
