      Critics Consensus

A funny and clever reshaping of Emma, Clueless offers a soft satire that pokes as much fun at teen films as it does at the Beverly Hills glitterati. Read critic reviews

Its plot may be razor thin, but Alicia Silverstone's irresistible charm, the casts blooming performances and quotable & humorous splendor makes Clueless and cult film that still holds up to any generation of teenagers. 4.5/5

From writer/director Amy Heckerling comes the teen comedy Clueless. When a superficial valley girl attempts to become more altruistic she takes a new transfer student at her high school under her wing and mentors her. Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, and Breckin Meyer lead the cast and have good chemistry together. However, it's Silverstone's charisma that gives the film its charm and personality. Still, the ditziness of the characters gets a little annoying and their conflicts are rather mundane. Additionally, there's a bit of weirdness with a step-sibling romance. Clueless has some interesting things to say and a positive social message, but it tries too hard.

An influential film among the young uns during the mid-90s, Clueless has its moments but can now be viewed as pretty trivial in comparison to more recent films. The chemistry between Paul Rudd and Silverstone is completely unbelievable.

A pretty mediocre comedy about the life of a spoiled rich girl in Beverly Hills, Clueless has a few inspired moments and good jokes, but for the most part it's just a typical teen comedy without anything to set it apart from its peers in the genre.
