      Critics Consensus

Well-meaning but fundamentally flawed, Collateral Beauty aims for uplift but collapses in unintentional hilarity.

DMB 9 Beautifully done movie. It will make you cry but the message portrayed in the movie is something that everyone should watch. It walks the audience through what most people try to avoid. Grief Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Sam H Had so much potential with a great ensemble cast, however it fell apart in a torrential storm of clichés, wooden performances (especially by Will Smith), and trying to combine too many elements of older movies dealing with death. I have recently lost four members of my immediate family, and I thought that watching this would help me cope. It did not—I resented the careless and stereotypical way it presented the effects of death on those surviving family members and the haphazard, sloppy acting. Waste of my time. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Matthew M Has a lot of bad reviews, personally I really like this film. It does with what must be a horrendous situation and makes you think Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/23/23 Full Review Tiff T All the poetry and ofc the ppl they got to play these specific characters * beautifully done Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/23 Full Review Regal R 69/100 - meh, kid of sad and sappy but i just expected more from a star studded cast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Donald S This movie takes you through the process of how one event impacts the lives of so many. I am glad that I was able to experience it. Yes the plot was a little obvious but the talent in the cast and how the portray their characters, knowing how the movie ends doesn't matter. To be able to spend time with thin was awesome. I really wish the movie would have been longer. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald Why did it get made? And how much did its gifted cast of big names have to be paid to enable them to suspend disbelief and commit themselves to such a concentrated dose of drivel? Rated: 1/5 Jan 20, 2017 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald Collateral Beauty sets a record: it is probably the worst movie each of these fine actors will ever do. Rated: 0.5/5 Jan 11, 2017 Full Review Ian Freer Empire Magazine Despite its quality cast and slick visuals, the result is sombre and saccharine rather than uplifting. Rated: 2/5 Jan 9, 2017 Full Review Brian T. Carney Washington Blade Collateral Beauty went to great lengths to depict a diverse Manhattan, except for the fact that no openly LGBT people are visible anywhere in the film. Dec 21, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Collateral Beauty should be seen by no one, not even ironically, as its device-laden attempt to draw out tears remains calculating, absurdly structured, and borderline offensive. Rated: 0.5/4 Apr 5, 2022 Full Review Hosea Rupprecht Pauline Center for Media Studies I agree that it's emotionally manipulative but it's also inspirational and a heartwarming, if unrealistic, reminder to see the beauty all around us...
