Audience Member A passable enough movie but all over the map, and while it was a vehicle for the Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler tandem, I liked it more for their supporting cast, featuring Hugh Herbert as a bumbling millionaire and Joan Blondell as a gold-digger. The musical numbers are mildly entertaining, but tap dancer Paul Draper lacks charisma and Ruby Keeler's singing is flat. I liked "Boulevardier from the Bronx" performed by Blondell and Jack Oakie more, as goofy as he was, and perhaps influenced by Blondells's décolleté. It's not horrible or anything, but you can do better. I suggest trying a movie like Footlight Parade from 1933 instead. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Aside from a couple of eye popping production numbers this is an ordinary entertainment. I'm sure she was a nice woman but how did Ruby Keeler ever become a musical star? Her dancing skill is meager and her voice thin. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member another pairing of powell & keeler Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member What can I tell you about this film? Not much. Since I watched the film I don't remember much about it. That's how bland it was. The musical numbers are forgettable. The acting didn't grab me. The story left me unfilled. I wouldn't say don't watch it but I wouldn't say it a must see. www.what-to-watch.com Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Love the Fashions, The Decors, & how they did Fashion Shows as Elaborate Numbers in those days. The Acting & Story wasn't that good but it was Visually Stunning with Choreographed Fashion Shows with S Shaped Ramps, Escorts in Tuxes,& complete with Dancing that made up for it.
