In 1992 Bogota, a little girl (Amandla Stenberg) watches crime lord Don Luis (Beto Benites) and his henchman Marco (Jordi Mollà) murder her parents. Fifteen years later, the now-grown Cataleya (Zoe Saldana), who is named for a Colombian orchid, works as a contract killer for her Chicago-based uncle (Cliff Curtis). Leaving a lipstick drawing of her namesake on every victim, Cataleya carries out her assignments with cold, frightening efficiency and dreams of avenging her family.

Critics Consensus

Zoe Saldana has the chops but she's taken out by erratic and sloppy filmmaking.

Keith Uhlich Time Out The jittery action aesthetic is a bit grating (three cuts minimum per roundhouse kick), but the spectacularly named Olivier Megaton still manages to deliver the goods. Rated: 3/5 Jul 1, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Filling the holster on this occasion is Zoe Saldana, an actress who is leagues better than the material she is given here. Apr 4, 2023 Full Review Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Acclaimed writer Luc Besson (The Professional, Taken, The Fifth Element) co-writes another action-packed movie that even with a few outrageous moments is still a smart, sexy thriller with a good story that propels Saldana's star power. Rated: B+ Sep 8, 2017 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand Once you get past the clichés and the reckless obsession of its heroine, it’s a classic Besson action fest, a souped-up drive-in action thriller with exotic locations and dynamic set pieces and action sequences ... Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A midrange action product with violence to spare, reasonable star power, lots of momentum, even more violence, and heaps of sex appeal, all tempered for mass consumption by a PG-13 rating. Michael B Sometimes I wonder if I’m watching the same movie as the critics, I thought it was great! From start to finish awesome action and chase scenes, camera work, good story. Sure typical plot for a revenge story but I thought the cat-and-mouse action set pieces were above the average. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Wilson X Boring and not well depiction of Colombia Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Michael S Zoe Saldana's action/assassin scenes notwithstanding, this is a pretty dumb movie. It's like they didn't know which clichés to use, so they just sprinkled bits of them throughout the movie. Girl witnesses her parents murder? Check. Out for revenge? Check. Hired kills? Check. Tries to live a normal life with a love interest? Check. Cat-and-mouse with the feds? Check. None of them are developed. Threads are either dropped for no reason or quickly wrapped up. Zoe deserved better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Laurie S Although it's a good and exciting movie there's some very dubious elements going on. How precisely did the FBI link a photo of a quarter of her face to her. It's cheats like this this that reduce the quality of the film from a much higher grade. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Georgan G 3 & 1/4 stars. Nothing new in this revenge film except that the person seeking said revenge is a little girl. Within 15 years she begins to live out that revenge and gets what she wants. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Aaron M This movie is great. I'm surprised it's not getting the same accolades as the Equalizer, Jack Reacher, John Wick (although John Wick is much more violent). This shows a woman who has been traumatized and how she takes a trauma and decides not only an act revenge for her family, but also how she self destructs in the process. It has a great storyline, great action, and good fight scenes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews
