Peter Gerstenzang Village Voice With so many voices, Color Me becomes a rock version of Rashomon, and what the film lacks in music and live footage, it more than makes up for with obsessive detail and heated debate. Nov 15, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Kevin L I don't recall ever coming across this before, from either just web surfing, a magazine like Mojo, or hearing about from a friend. I tried watching it just now, and I was repeatedly put off by all the hipster-y blather and uber-gushing of these gasbag fans (of one sort or another). It reminds me of so many of the worst sort of 20-something anal buttheads from the 80's & 90's who regurgitated the same tired nonsense from the 'punk rock guide book' on what's 'cool', what's lame, being a 'sell-out' if you actually sell more then 20K records, and 'being true to the spirit' of rn'r buddy(!)...blah, blah, stfu. They go on about the 1st album is one of the 2-3 greatest ever, by any one, ever, of all-time. But the 2nd is one of the two greatest American.....Then there's the story of them at SNL, getting a great chance (like their 10th!) to get real exposure and be more successful. But then they take the food, that was bought for them, flush some of it down a toilet, smear it across the wallks, then do other structural damage. And then there's the meathead doofus saying it made them his favorite band 'even more'. He says, "That's what you want a rock band to be like." No, it really isn't. That's a cliché; a tired, antiquated, cornball cliche. THAT'S what a rock band should be like, a dumb cliché? If you wanna be a jerkoff, fine. But do it on your own time. You were given a great gig by people who appreciated your music, and you respond by basically spitting on them? I like The Replacements quite a bit. I think they had a run of 3-4 albums that was among the best of its time and that still stand up damn well. I wish this had them talking about THEIR music some. Then again, the title does say it all. Too bad obsession can too often lead to such a lack of objectivity and open-mindedness towards change, growth, trying something new. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member very good movie even for those not interested in the replacements. what it lacks in pace it makes up for in historical value for anyone interested in DIY music... you might not have known how important the replacements were until you watch this movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Done from a fans perspective with very little of the Mats music. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best music docs I've seen. Really enjoyed using only interviews with fans and colleagues. Mostly enjoyed the varied opinions by those interviewed. Seems like every album was someone's favorite and for someone else "every album after X" is pure crap. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Ever stay home and miss out on seeing a band play, and your friends can't wait to tell you how great it was? That's all this documentary is, For 2 hours. No music (the whole soundtrack is just a guitar tuning). No live footage. No interviews with the band. No pictures of the band. Just interviews with a bunch of people who only know the band as fans, or casual acquaintances. No real interesting stories or insight on the bands dynamics. If you have any friends that like the Replacements just sit in a silent room and have them explain what they like about them. For 2 hours. You'll be living the movie.. BORING!!!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting documentary that consists of interviews with fans of the group, many who were there from their inception. There is no contribution from any of the band members and no live footage or songs but there are many amusing and poignant anecdotes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
