Audience Member Most desi movie scripts are a bit embarrassing but this one is very decent and based on true story! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Rang Rasiya is very well made movie that questions the moral policing which haunted the works of the celebrated painter Raja Ravi Varma... Ironically the movie itself faced a lot of opposition from self appointed moral police of today... The scene towards the climax where the importance of sexuality in Indian culture was rolling, I kept wondering, 'Were people who banned this film actually angry on this logical reasoning? And was nudity just a facade to ban this film?' In many ways the problems that Raja Ravi Varma faced in his times still persists. And it becomes evident each day as we hear about a new ban being imposed on various works of art... The question that Rang Rasiya poses is a valid one, "If limit is imposed on artistic imagination, can the art that takes birth be called 'Art' or will it just be an incomplete shadow of what it actually was supposed to be?" In one of the scenes, Nandana Sen's character exclaims, "He made a Goddess out of me and You look at me as if I am a whore." The line still stays with me as the emotion behind this line rings true... Isn't art what the onlooker makes out of it? And if the onlooker sees ugliness, the artist isn't at fault but it is the viewer who needs to open up his mind. It has been quite some time since Rang Rasiya released but recently the documentary 'India's Daughter' was officially banned in India... Isn't it a shame that we Indians never learn? Watch Rang Rasiya to know the difference between actual Indian culture and the controlled culture that we wrongly think is Indian culture. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
