Adam Nayman The Ringer This thrifty psychological thriller comes so close to realizing its mindfuck potential that if you squint just right while streaming it, it looks a bit like a cult classic. May 3, 2021 Full Review Kate Erbland IndieWire Burns' script is just as concerned with the weirdness of Sarah's waking life as it is the literal monsters that populate her dreams, and the filmmaker's ability to balance and juxtapose those two portions of the film only strengthen each section. Rated: C+ Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Angie Han FilmWeek (LAist) By the end, you're just like "Well okay, that was that." Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Brandon Stanwyck InSession Film Unfortunately, Anthony Scott Burns chose to end Come True with a lazy, fatuous twist-for-the-sake-of-a-twist affront to everyone who’d just given him 100 minutes of their time. Rated: D Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Akos Peterbencze Vulnerable Man (Medium) Come True is at its best when it lets us partake and discover these dark, startling dreams alongside the characters in a surreal world of unease, freight, and terror. H Q The first 2 great acts certainly make up for the mediocre 3rd act. Just enjoy the trip. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/21 Full Review Haley S The word for this movie in a nutshell is, "DISAPPOINTINTING". And, the ending was "LAZY", which to me is unforgivable to something I've give 1-2 hrs of my time to! B of all the intensity of emotions in the characters, I thought there would be a point to it or a plot. Unfortunately that was not true. It was a waste of time, the only reason I gave 2* instead of 1, is bc it did make me care about ppl in it. The acting wasn't great, but with a better script, think it could have been. It's hard to see actors actual talent, with a script which seems unfinished, yet bloated at the same time. If only something happened that felt satisfying. This movie is a small appetizer, but the main course never arrives. Not worth the time, there's better things out there to see. If only we knew which movies they were! It'd be so nice to know ahead & no more wasted hours out of our lives. I'm not sure how much reading reviews (or asking friends) helps knowing what I'll like, love or hate. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/19/25 Full Review Jeffrey P The pace is slow but the tone and revealing of information are in sync with the pace. The dreamlike imagery and symbolism are woven in with a degree of seamless subtlety that makes everything flow very smoothly. This is a very well balanced and well executed piece of dark surreal psychological horror and, best of all, it nails the landing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review FRANS G This movie had great potential and a very interesting concept, but it is wasted in a strangely directed and made movie. There is not much dialogue and some scenes could have done with some explanation etc. It is an uncomfortable movie to watch at times as the characters all seem awkward and tense. This could have been a much better and much more interesting movie and it was a bit frustrating to watch as the movie goes along, as it doesn't develop into anything better. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review J P COME TRUE is an outstanding film that follows a late-teen named Sara as she juggles the surreal nature of dream logic with a muted-color-palette reality that seems to be fraying at the edges, corroding from within, or both. Her mission as the film goes on is, in essence, to keep reality from slipping, sudden changes seeming to strip it from her grasp are intensifying and maybe multiplying, and she needs fix this or go mad. The ending is not so much a twist as it is a revelation, its separate elements well-telegraphed through the 2nd and 3rd acts, and it's not "cheap" at all. It tightens up what could have been easily fumbled, and my hat is off to the writer and director. The lead is also spectacular. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Eye C The ambiance is creepy, the mystery is intriguing and the dreams are bizarre as hell, BUT they give the movie for stupid twist at the end… oh and it could be nice NOT to watch tree people walking for ten minutes.
