Russell Edwards Variety An entertaining world tour of small-town movie houses and the dedicated cineastes who maintain them, Comrades in Dreams is a delight. Jan 16, 2007 Full Review Film Threat Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 27, 2007 Full Review Zack Haddad Film Threat This is a very fun documentary. All of the theater owners bring something new to the table and are fascinating to watch, plus the fact that it is different than the standard shakey-cam documentary is commendable. Audience Member A cinephile crowdpleaser. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Nette kleine Doku über ein paar ebenfalls sehr kleine und nette Kinos und ihre Betreiber. 3/5 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member An intriguing documentary about movie projectionists from 4 far corners of the world. My favorite segment was the one about this East Indian traveling tent movie showman who is also trying to seek a wife. Next up was the husband and wife team who ran a commune film club in rural North Korea. You can borrow the DVD from your local public library. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Following the day-to-day routine of cinemas in four countries and the lives of the people who work there, this is everything a documentary should be- funny, poignant, educational and with an interesting story to tell. The most unusual aspect was to see the town in North Korea, which had that impeccable but utterly soulless feel. It's difficult to know how much was cleaned up for the camera (I've never seen a projection booth that clean!), or whether it really is like that- either way it was quite scary, as was the detectable hint of tired resignation with which many of the townspeople were heading to the latest dire patriotic offering at the cinema. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating documentary about four very different areas of the world and how their appreciation of film shapes their region. I found all four groups to be equally fascinating.
