Santiago (Gustavo Londono) arrives at his home shortly after a Colombian presidential candidate has been publicly assassinated. A riot has broken out, but Santiago's overbearing wife, Josefina (Maria Cristina Gálvez), is oblivious to the danger. Having spent the day preparing a birthday cake for their solitary neighbor, Laura (Vicky Hernández), she now insists that Santiago cross the street to deliver it. Dutifully, he does, and soon discovers in Laura the woman who will change his life forever.
