Marisa 22h I don't get it. I read the synopsis and thought this sweet, coming of age story is right up my alley. What I saw was not what I expected. First, kids don't talk like that, mini-adults in little bodies. Second. the values & principles of what (I thought) the Girl Scouts was about was not what I saw. Third, I was a Brownie & a Girl Scout, and This wasn't it. Very Disappointed. See more jesse v 1d i appreciate the sentiment and emotional story but it was just a weird time jump going from each kid's brief backstory to cookie business. I would love to see more of the logistical hoops each family had to go through to enter the troop. Also weird of kids just randomly entering shops and sports games to upsell cookies. The realism of this "documentary" (how people interact, time skips) gets more blurry as the film progresses. Some of the kids like Ara REALLY CARRY this movie with charm. Also weird of Olive to randomly change her mind in continuing to sell once the season got extended. The cinematography here is oddly FANTASTIC though. The biggest question is why is the Royal Family of England involved in this? Also rating dropped because of including Olive in the SAG-AFTRA guild protest: why????? Took my grandkids and we were bored to tears. Also didn’t like that it seemed to make the Girl Scouts and brownies all about sell, sell, sell cookies and didn’t really represent what the Girl Scouts and brownies are really about. Uses the lens of "cookie season," something most any modern American can relate to even if they have not actually been a Girl Scout, to explore a variety of themes: the tension between achieving and being, how social class shapes opportunities, how social media has impacted childhood and society at large. The filmmaker explores the above w/out trying to advance a particular agenda of her own. It is not an expose of the evils of the Girl Scout cookie machine, nor is it overly sentimental about this annual ritual. I see some reviewers are interpreting some scenes as "overly staged." I can't even think of a scene that was "overly staged" *by the director,* though there are some scenes of Olive, especially, making social media videos with her dad. Those videos -- aimed at potential cookie buyers -- seem "overly staged." The filmmaker merely included scenes - and left it to the audience to judge. That's the best type of filmmaking, I think!
