Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Cousins is a celebration of carnal desire, wrapped up in a comedy so that nobody is too badly hurt. Matthew C One of the more underrated movies of the 80s. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review isla s This is a cheesy and sentimental film but its a good film as the cast do a good job in making the viewer believe in the characters, particularly Ted Danson. It has a nice feel to it, the plot is reasonably fun, its a bit fluffy of course but if your in the mood for a relatively light romantic comedy then you could do worse than this (just don't expect anything spectacular or especially memorable in the medium to long term, certainly). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member love this movie... always a go-to.... wonderful actors, script, music, humour... :) (& setting)... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a charming, feel-good movie, similar to My Big Fat Greek Wedding but exploring issues of infidelity and the fear and allure of new beginnings. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I want to take 2 whole stars off for casting Ted Danson in this, but it is so beautifully shot, like one extended Beauty commercial for Lancome, as Rossellini was the face of this brand at this time. Rossellini is almost more captivating than her mother, as if a real muse descended from the Heavens to bless director Joel Schumacher who painted the heck out of the screen with this film. The sets, the composition of the shots, the hilarious relief of young filmmaker Mitch (played by the wonderful Keith Coogan) who shocks his family with his films at gatherings like a true sociopath is perfect... ...and then Ted Danson. Listen, Ted Danson was a major sex symbol at this time with "Cheers" and every other woman was into it. I cannot take my eyes off his rug in this thing. The rug is up in my face in every scene. If a charming man like Ted Danson's Larry came up to me at a wedding in that rug spinning those lines...No Larry, just No. Bald men are very sexy, widow's peak balding men--even sexier. Someone who is covering up that hairline isn't confident in his male beauty, and that's not very attractive. Rossellini does an unbelievable job at making me believe her chemistry with the rug is real (which also kinda pains me to be honest), and that she is a true beauty who sees past the beast. Alas, Ted Danson's hair has never been so badly filmed ever since, and now he's totally a silver fox with nothing distracting on his head, so I'm happy for him and his hair. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie and saw it at least 5 times! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
