Bill T Completely insane adaptation of "The Woman In White" featuring Mr. Subtlety himself, Tod Slaughter as a man who takes over the identity of a man who is bound to inherit a giant amount of money, but he was mistaken! Ah, but the woman he is bequethed to, she has a whole pile of money, so he has it made! But his problems pile up one after the other, and what about that daughter the man he killed had? She's in the the insane asylum, so she cant readily identify him, but she's recently escaped! The source material for this is quite strange, but Tod Slaughter, a man who I believe I've seen in a movie or 2 before, just makes it beyond weird with his constant leering, scary poses and laughing. He does make for an imposing figure, but he takes it a bit too far. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The performances are somewhat over the top, and there's a lot of direction for the audiences benefit in the script to ensure you keep up with the plot, but at the same time it's quite a funny comedy-horror for it. The body count is quite high too without it being gory at all. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Simple plot, nothing real interesting. Common drama, with just a little edge of horror. Decent characters, okay pacing, and an overall well finish. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member One of Tod Slaughter's best films is this horror melodrama where he is excellent as a man who has taken another person's identity in order to claim an inheritance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is fast paced and fun, and the dialog is so (unintentionally?) humorous that one just has to laugh and smile even through the murders. Tod Slaughter is a wonderful dastardly old villain. For this kind of melodrama, it couldn't get much better than Crimes at the Dark House. Quite entertaining.
