Not satisfied with his nightly gigs at various night clubs in Spanish Harlem, musician Rudy Veloz (Ruben Blades) is desperate for popular success. And he's willing to sacrifice everything in pursuit of his goal -- including longtime friends and age-old musical traditions. Veloz sees his chance at mainstream stardom when he meets a music producer who agrees to put out one of his songs. The tune becomes a crossover sensation. But, after having tasted success, will Veloz be able to survive it?
