scott m Story about a westerner who gets ship wrecked on a deserted island while seeking fame and fortune. There his horrible prejudices against an African man are turned around on him in a very well told story. One of my favorite movies about race and ignorance. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Frances H I very much liked the slaver/rescued black native Friday angle of this version and the fantastic cinematography . Aidan Quinn is very good as Crusoe. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/14 Full Review Audience Member Not being familiar with the source material, this proved to be an interesting story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member The Robinson Crusoe story with a few twists. Crusoe as a slave trader. I did not see the twists as an improvement over the original story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Crusoe is one of the most terribly bland and boring adaptations of the classic tale, just don't watch the movie Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully filmed, but suffers from deliberate pacing and a shallow, uninspired viewpoint. Nigel Andrews Financial Times Washed up, alas, in all senses. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Derek Malcolm Guardian The film looks good, as befits the cinematography of The Black Stallion, Being There and The Right Stuff, and the acting is fine. But the whole thing suffers a little in the telling from a certain sense of déjà vu, however novel the concept. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review David Robinson Times (UK) It is well crafted and pleasant to watch, with its handsome seascapes and fine sailing craft. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Madeleine Harmsworth Sunday Mirror (UK) This fascinating film, with its beautiful Seychelles setting, carries an obvious message which, cleverly, is never overstated. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Sean French Observer (UK) As virtually a one-man show, Crusoe has always been a challenge to actors, and Aidan Quinn, looking like an underfed Mel Gibson, doesn't entirely rise to that challenge. Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) A very moving film, at times giddy, that utilizes the music sheet from the even better Michael Kamen.
