He's a poet, a 17th-century French swordsman and an all-around charismatic person, but Cyrano de Bergerac (Pierre Magnier) also has a great source of shame: his enlarged nose, which drains his confidence when he is around women. That goes especially for Roxanne (Linda Moglia), a beautiful lady whose hand Cyrano desires. Fearful of rejection, Cyrano feeds lines to the handsome but tongue-tied officer Christian (Angelo Ferrari), hoping that his poetry will somehow bring him closer to Roxanne.

Audience Member This story has inspired countless other romance films, been adapted a million times, and referenced and parodied. Yet actually watching this film, which apparently kept closely to the play, was a great experience. It's full of excitement and romance, with both humor and tragedy. The actors do a really good job too. So far this is the best Cyrano movie I have seen, and I recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member In its original Pathechrome it's gorgeous. A great period melodrama with a bit of humor, romance and swashbuckling. This film also boasts what may be the most drawn out death in film history. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A silent film about a play that relies on verbal dexterity. Surprisingly, it works. The words are spare but well written, sword fights are decent and the performances, by the main characters, are surprisingly naturalistic for the 1920s. It' not as stylized and cool as some of the German expressionist films but really good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
