Mike R Amazing how the critics always rip Perry's "Madea" movies, yet the audience almost unanimously love them. Makes you wonder. I personally get so much out of the movies, be it laughter, realistic family dynamics, and great acting. Critical are annoying! #Esperança Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review edie h Definitely a feel good movie, with great acting! Yes, the plot was predictable but so satisfying to watch. Highly recommend Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Look i get it, the year this came out there were calls for more recognition for black actors and movies. The problem was until I see a better one, they'll not be the level of recognition the black community wants to see. This movie had a real meaning, hidden messages which I'm very sure most women would have chosen to ignore and that's we cannot continue to demand fathers take equal responsibility for children and not give them equal rights. Lots of messages also including how decent men exist but also live in the real world and aren't all rich, paying for their own legal fees and biting their tongue with whatever the mother and others throw at them. A case lots and lots of men can relate to. The downside however outweighs the good; a very melodramatic, cheap, over the top and poorly executed story and for a comedy, not the slightest bit funny. The final act should be the most interesting, instead it's totally ridiculous. Unfortunately, although Idris in a fan of, this is the seventh movie of his I've seen which are very poorly put together. A note as well we understand the lingo and the phrases like wid chu, babe, ya saying, all of that... but half the film Monty is very well spoken which is a reason the lawyer noticed him, the other half of the film he's a typical black american who isn't so well spoken at all. These inconsistencies are another reason this film really sucked. scenes were too poorly done I almost felt sorry for Idris. More like a painting by numbers comedy drama to suit black people. The last act was awful including the rushed scenes at court and well this spoilt the whole film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Ryan K Went into the film curious to see how Tyler perry would perform without a 'madea-esque' character to fall on; only to see him put similar un-necessary humor points (woman on blind dates) that did not serve the plot (or the audience, or even the actors) at all. Ultimately, seemed to tackle more subjects then it was willing to go into depth about. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/02/21 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so redundant. The continuous story line of a successful black woman with some jail -bird loser with his drug-addicted baby momma and his 3 illegitimate children . Add some sob story and bam! you get your as typical Tyler Perry movie. Maybe they'll quit running that story line when black women starts calling them out on it and stop watching, we sure love trash! 2 hrs that I'll never get back. J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Dismissed by critics but embraced by African-American audiences, Tyler Perry now opens his pictures without press previews, but on the basis of this expert melodrama he might want to reconsider. Dec 3, 2007 Full Review Melissa Anderson Time Out Love can transcend class lines; in Tyler Perry's universe, it also defies all rules of the legal system -- and logic. Rated: 2/6 Mar 3, 2007 Full Review Toddy Burton Austin Chronicle I entered this moviegoing experience ready for a lot of wincing and eye-rolling. But dammit if this movie didn't make me laugh and cry. Rated: 3/5 Feb 25, 2007 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy Infinitely more captivating for its outrageous ungainliness than a great many more proficient filmmakers have ever been able to manage. Rated: 4/10 Feb 1, 2012 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) The cast is likable, and Perry makes good use of the Atlanta locations. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 29, 2007 Full Review Mark Palermo The Coast (Halifax, Nova Scotia) Perry's habit of reducing drama to verbal sermons is the main thing keeping his movies within the realm of daytime TV.
