Audience Member Noomi Rapace brings everything to the roles she plays. Phenomonally talented, she brings the viewer into her emotional space. It is more like feeling the relentless dramatic disintegration of her character than just observing it. This movie was not what I was expecting based on the Movie Info summary. I had to wait a few weeks before I could figure out how to review it. The stucture of the movie was unusually interesting and added to the disturbing drama. Judged solely on its own merits and the portryal by Rapace I give it 5 stars. A small side note: Is there a rule that says characters in Swedish movies must start out miserable and end up even more miserable ? I would like to see Miss Rapace in a nice Romantic Comedy where she and everyone else is happy. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Noomi Rapace is phenomenal inside. But the film itself, no matter the plot itself, or the execution (directing, narrative), or Noomi's acting, is hard to watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member If one can withstand the initial parts of the movie, clogged by baby-wails, this movie is full of visuals worthy of praise.. A really good effort at movie making.. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Rapce makes this movie tolerable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Emotional performance. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Another gloomy Noomi movie, this time dissecting the mental breakdown of a woman forced to commit the unthinkable deed. Cleverly using the young mother's failed theatrical auditions as a means of explaining the lead-up to the ghastly events that unfold, director Staho inexorably draws us into her world, visually punctuating each unraveling layer of sanity with full screen shots of Ms. Rapace's utterly compelling visage (yes, I'm a fan). While its grim tone (to say nothing of endless crying baby scenes) might be too much for many viewers, this tragic tale enables us to confront the reality of what many consider to be an unspeakable act and leaves us blank and dead inside (there are no survivors here, audience included). Despite this, DD is a poignant and harshly beautiful film which I would recommend to those who, like me, found Biutiful similarly moving.
