Daisy Miller ended up doing lasting harm to Bogdanovich’s career and it would take the ’80s television series Moonlighting to turn Cybill Shepherd into a star, but it has been unfairly maligned for too long and deserves a revisit.

Actually, I think that the movie does a good job of selling the tragedy of the ending. Also, while I concede that some of the central performances are grating, I do think that is kind of the point.

Cybill Shepard is miscast in Bogdanovich's otherwise handsome adaptation of Henry James' famous novel.

While it may be dramatically lacking, there's something breezy, cheeky and appealing about Bogdanovich's film, much like its title character. Sumptuously photographed with excellent period detail, long before the Merchant Ivory years, and a strong cast make this pleasant viewing
