Jake Cole Slant Magazine The attempt to turn the words of one of literature’s most understated, psychologically piercing authors into the stuff of punchy, Hawksian wit comes perilously close to working. May 30, 2024 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker Bogdanovich's bravura display of directorial style is as insightful as it is thrilling. Apr 27, 2020 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Sight & Sound The first and perhaps the final question to be asked about Peter Bogdanovich's adaptation of Henry James' novella is just why he chose to embark on it. Apr 2, 2020 Full Review James Kendrick Q Network Film Desk Daisy Miller ended up doing lasting harm to Bogdanovich’s career and it would take the ’80s television series Moonlighting to turn Cybill Shepherd into a star, but it has been unfairly maligned for too long and deserves a revisit. Rated: 3/4 Sep 3, 2024 Full Review John Simon Esquire Magazine It is hard to determine to whom [director Peter Bogdanovich] has done the greater disservice: to his author, by assuming he could bring him to the screen, or to his inamorata, by assuming he could get her to act. Jul 28, 2020 Full Review Quentin Tarantino The New Beverly By Bogdanovich turning the whole story into one that turns on fast-paced comic repartee, he leans the material into Shepherd's strengths. Alec B Actually, I think that the movie does a good job of selling the tragedy of the ending. Also, while I concede that some of the central performances are grating, I do think that is kind of the point. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Steve D The tone is inconsistent for the story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Actually, I think that the movie does a good job of selling the tragedy of the ending. Also, while I concede that some of the central performances are grating, I do think that is kind of the point. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review jonathan m Cybill is great but this is not my cup of tea Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Cybill Shepard is miscast in Bogdanovich's otherwise handsome adaptation of Henry James' famous novel. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member While it may be dramatically lacking, there's something breezy, cheeky and appealing about Bogdanovich's film, much like its title character. Sumptuously photographed with excellent period detail, long before the Merchant Ivory years, and a strong cast make this pleasant viewing Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
