It takes itself so seriously while lacking in self-awareness that it feels like it's a satirical take on horror, like a comedy. The actors are poor at their jobs as well but the abysmal writing aids in the cringe. For instance the dialog is miserably cliche where they quite literally say "it's quiet in here... to quiet..."
