When Daniel Northcott got a hold of his father’s video camera at the age of seven, a lifetime of documenting the world around him began. Growing up, he focused his lens on his family and close friends, and as a young man, he recorded precious moments with the people and places he encountered on his travels, striving to live a life of love and seek out universal human connection. On a mission to pursue an epic adventure, Daniel visits war zones to sacred sites, including a Mayan burial ground in a cave in Mexico. He would often take a keepsake from each location as a reminder of his connection to the earth. But Daniel’s world travels abruptly end when he must return home to Vancouver because of health reasons. While undergoing treatment, he is haunted by the memory of an ancient Mayan curse and goes on a quest to put things back where they belong before he runs out of time. Crafted from over 1,400 hours of vérité-style footage shot in 42 countries across four continents, DANIEL is an unflinching self-portrait of a young man with an insatiable curiosity and a boundless desire to understand the world and his place in it.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal If one is inclined to buy into Mayan curses and possessed totems, this may be your cup of aguardiente. Otherwise, Daniel is a bewildering film, full of cracker-barrel philosophizing and Northcott’s ad-libbed aphorisms about the interconnectedness of life. Dec 21, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/24 Full Review tianna j Im literally living in a hotel currently going through the hardest time I've ever been through in life... Came home from work and this was on. I don't know how to change the channel with that being said it's 5 am now and I'm an emotional mess. I loved it. There was really no point... But like he was such an awesome person it makes me want to love harder forgive more and just enjoy my time on this earth instead of just working. I loved it dearly.. I needed this in my soul. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Dereka N A documentary that answers the question: What is the meaning of life? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Totally Legal A This guy carried around a video camera for 22 years (since he was 7 years old - kept it charged and running at the expense, agitation and sometimes delight of any and everyone around him) so that you might enjoy an hour and a half of your life. His lessons are simple but true, life is beautiful and the beauty in it will keep you safe; we are all connected and our connectivity is undeniable and our interconnectivity doesn't end with death. However not everything in the world is beautiful and when you come across something less than love one should not take it with you less you harbor it at your own expense. Some might argue that this is a wives tale of curses but those people are as blind as Daniel was to his own worth. They're welcome to take their negativity the same way Daniel sadly took his. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Brenda W I found this movie by accident but I couldn't stop watching. It was engaging from the first few minutes. We see young Daniel filming everyday life and telling his "audience " about his surroundings and I see my own sons and nephews in Daniel. As the film progresses you realize that, while Daniel is like so many boys growing up in the 80s and 90s and exploring filming, he so different in how he perceives everyone and everything in the world. Daniel is truly a beautiful soul who clearly impacted nearly everyone he ever met. His light shone so bright and his gentle kindness was palpable through his films. The world needs more Daniel's. Thankfully his family finished his film and shared his message with all of us.........what an amazing gift. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Sarah S Felt like the movie Boyhood but a documentary. What a beautiful man Daniel was, and a privilege to see his very full life.
