The story was precise, the rules of the world were clear, and when they were muddied, there were obvious reasons for it. The individual stakes for the characters were high. There were plenty of heart-felt moments and a fair few laugh-out-loud ones, too.

A deeply frustrating film: overlong, messy, and saddled with atrocious production design. Vigalondo has demonstrated wit before (Colossal, Timecrimes), but he continues to fall short where it matters most: substance and style. Clever ideas aren’t enough when execution remains this unfocused. At their best, his films feel like a great night with your stoner friends. At their worst, those stoner friends are over forty, going nowhere, and still repeating the same jokes.

Daniella Forever is a movie with a message but just took awfully long to deliver it with a meandering, somewhat repetitive storyline. Needs better editing. And why does Golding never get the girl? First, Emilia Clarke, now this girl, ouch. It’s a movie that asks if it’s better to live without someone you love if you know the ending will be cut short for her. I’m not sure it’s as clever as director thinks because paths are infinite. He knows one path is bad but what about others?
