The satisfyingly spooky Dark Harvest might have been scarier, but it wrings some stylish chills out of its intriguing premise.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Visually clever and directed with giddy, B-movie ferociousness by Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night impresario David Slade, this slick slice of blood-splattered Halloween carnage is worth knocking on doors to see. Rated: 3/4 Oct 19, 2023 Full Review Peyton Robinson RogerEbert.com Slade's film isn’t too grave about leaving a lasting effect, but it does not take itself seriously enough. Logan D A 1960s small town has been cursed and must have their 18 year old sons hunt a creature every Halloween. The winner gets a ticket out of town. Blending elements of supernatural horror with social commentary, this is a mild diversion for horror fans. The creature is fantastic and is what I found most appealing. The narrative doesn't achieve it's potential, paralleling authoritarian control with gory deaths and there are several dumb moments. Starving boys for 3 days won't make them maniacs. They'll be tired and too light headed to run around the cornfields. And just the idea parents would place their children in this situation. It would be too easy to distract the law and all your children to leave the town. But, the monster? Worth it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/23/25 Full Review Diana B Yo this movie was such a fun watch. Recommend 100% Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/25 Full Review Dallas H Children of the Corn, Warriors, and The Purge meet Happy Days, with pyromaniac supernatural beings? It seems like an odd combo, but the movie feels watchable enough if there isn't anything else to view. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review First Name L Stunning move. Absolute Must See! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/06/24 Full Review Kyle M The “Hunger Games”-esque circumstance is self-contained illogically for the sake of narrative deliverance, being twistedly horrific and harrowing with predictable realization that chillingly adds more weight to the well-acted, resilient human central drama becoming the main embodiment over the slashing tendency, much to decent satisfaction. (B) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/24 Full Review Sarfaraz A This horror film was directed by David Slade and is based on Norman Partridge's novel of the same name, starring Casey Likes, E'myri Crutchfield, and others. The film is set in the early 1960s and is about a group of young men (known as "Runs") in a rural and isolated town who are locked every year for three days without food or water before being released on Halloween night to hunt down the creature emitting from the cornfields. The winner is given cash and a fancy automobile to leave town on a countryside excursion. It is revealed that the winner never leaves the town, since the elite in charge of gifting automobiles and cash have him slain on the outskirts and transformed into a creature for the next Halloween. The film features a terrific, engaging story that includes a mystery. The actors are also honest in their performances. It moves fast and won't bore you.
